    Ball python first poop :)

    Hi everyone:

I had my baby ball out tonight and I experienced the first time of him pooping on me lol...my question is, although I know it is normal for them to urinate/poop whenever they have to, do you think he did this out of being stressed from me handling him or was it more likely it was just the call of nature?

I have had him about 2 weeks, and have left him alone for the most part to settle in, and he ate a few days ago with no problem. I just was curious if it was a stress response or not? I know most likely hard to tell, I only had him out for about 20 minutes and he was exploring and while I was holding him he was climbing around me, my neck, hands, etc then bamm, I felt the warmth lol

theyre first poop is at 3 months or longer. and they probably need to be comfortable before theyre first poop

i assume if she was climbing all over you that she wasnt stressed as long as she wasnt thrashing and trying to escape, she was just exploring. which is normal.

she just got cozy and let it go!

I doubt it is stress. It is more likely because he was moving around. Sometimes it just works things loose. I look at my snakes vent area before picking them up, and if I see the tell-tale signs of "sausage butt" I leave them alone.

IMO, snakes "go" when they're relaxed. They hold it when they're stressed. Sometimes petting and stroking will get them to go, expecially stroking in the vent area. Or maybe he pooped on you just to show how much he loves you!

Ah ok...I am new to this and just wanted to make sure I wasn't stressing him out. I knew it was bound to happen and will happen more, I found it funny and luckily half got on me and the other half ended up on the floor..he wasn't squirming or acting stressed, seemed to be having a good time exploring and then out of the blue he let go lol..after I cleaned up I let him back into his enclosure and he spent the night roaming around his enclosure checking it out...thanks for the input, I find every day I learn something new and such an amazing guy

No offense, but this isn't very accurate... My Pinstripe is 2 months and 1 week old, and I have had her for 2 and a half weeks, and she has already pooped 2 times for me; the first time being a week before her 2 month 'birthday'. Although she is really chill, she has never striked at me, and only hissed twice: the first time was the FIRST TIME I ever saw/handled her, like 1 month before buying her, and the second time, was last week that I HAD TO move her (personal reasons, I really needed to) the day after eating, and she just hissed when she saw my hand, but then she let me grab her without any issues...

Got it right. Movement works it out a lot, especially with young/small snakes. Popping them also can bring it on too.
