    Thanks all. You can certainly take the same pictures! As far as taking the shots, the first set was just with an old canon point and shoot. The second set was done with a canon 40D, 50mm lens with tube extensions for macro, and a cheap ring flash.

    You can get similar results with a point and shoot. I recommend the panasonic Lumix LX5. That's like a handy DSLR in a pocket size frame with a nice Leica lens. That's usually my go-to camera but it got wet on a recent fishing trip.
