Feeding tegu new food
I am trying to get my tegu on a varying diet and today I tried liver which I heard from some1 was good for them not sure if this is true or not. Anyhow I left it in his/her enlsoer on the feeding rock and there it sits, know I am wondering if liver is a bad choice?

some will. its just trial and error. try ground turkey, eggs cooked and raw. preferably cooked. i've had good results with raw whole shrimp as well. fruits like melon, peaches and strawberries. not too much though. again just try a varied diet. mealworms, roaches etc...
hope that helps.

Most of the care sheets I have seen and in talking to people at Varnyard and from very new personal experience, ( I am sort of new at this), if you put ground turkey and liver 3-1 parts, and mix it with a food processor they seem to like it or at least mine does.
I haven't had a tegu in years but recieved one yesterday, a Red Arg. Yesterday was cricket day and today it was a scrambled egg w/ calcium powder for breakfast then he snacked on Tilapia for lunch. He is 18" by the way and he packing away the groceries. I also bought a slice of beef heart with I have heard they like as well.
Best of luck with your friend.

Re: Feeding tegu new food
If a variety isn't something they're use to it can take time for them to accept it. Instead of alone try offering it with things that it already eats. They learn early on what's good and not good to eat. In captivity it's easier for them to be picky, complacent and less opportunistic.
Thetegu.com and tegutalk.com are two great places for info.
