    New Pastel

I am new on the forum. I have posted a few times but not introduced myself or more importantly my new Pastel Female "Abby". She was born on 7-29-11.

I got her from Garrick at royal constrictor designs Wednesday (3 days ago).

I have been leaving her alone to get used to her new home. I have a day light on a zilla timer to stay on for 12hours a day and a red light at night. The temps have been perfect in her cage and she has been hiding in the day and exploring at night.

I was not sure of her last feeding with the breeder and she did not have any noticeable lump in her belly. I knew from talking to Garrick (the breeder) that she had been feeding on live mice but I do not have any local pet stores that carry live feeder mice.

So I got some F/T small adult mice today, thawed one in warm water, put it under a heat lamp for 3-4 minutes to get it good and warm.

I am using a feeding tub, so I put her in the tub before I did any handling of the mice, I also use tongs, but any way back to "Abby"

She snatched the F/T right up and pounded it down with no problems at all! Not bad for a first feeding. I plain to feed her every 5 days and just keep increasing the size of the mice until she gets big enough to take a rat.

Great forum, great info, Me and Abby will be checking in regularly

Congrats on your new ball and welcome to the forum!

Feeding in a seperate tub is unnecessary. He won't get "cage aggressive" if you feed him in his enclosure.

Also...it's usually easier to switch from mice to rats sooner than later...he should be big enough to take appropriate sized rats.

I'm pretty new to all this too, but I believe a fuzzy rat is about the same as a small mouse, but given that she's already dealing with the switchin over to f/t I wouldn't push it and throw on the rat switch too. Give her a couple more, at least, with the mice then try a rat...and from personal experience, upping their meal size and frequency at the same time is askin alot. You can try it and if she won't take it, no biggie, just toss him back in the freezer and try again in a few days. BTW, post pics, we love pics.

Good choice. I got a male from him a couple years ago and he still looks great. I just had a clutch of eggs from him and my normal
