    Co-dom versus recessive traits?

Here are a couple pictures of a couple mice I have. The first two pics is obviously a longhaired, but I don't know what the one in the last two pics is called. Does anyone know if these traits are co-dom or recessive? I'm also curious about the silky trait as well because I have some of those too. Thanks for any info.

Both long hair mouse genes are recessive.

One is angora (go/go) and it usually is what creates the better coats.

The other one is longhair (lgh/lgh) which usually creates a scraggly coat where only the guard hairs are long.

They can both be present on the same mouse. The fact that there are 3 ways to make long hair (angora, longhair, and a combination of both) is why you see a lot of variation in coat. Also, the gene is very unpredictable, and the coat lengths and thicknesses vary wildly. There is no co-dominant traits involved.

The 'silky' trait is called satin. Satin is also recessive (sa/sa).
All of these genes are very common. The colour of your mice are, piebald agouti, and a black tan.

    Re: Co-dom versus recessive traits?

Thanks for the info!!! I am actually giving the two I pictured to a girl who is raising mice and I wanted to make sure I gave her the correct info. I actually only have one visual long haired breeder so the male must be a carrier too. Interesting. She will be bummed to find out she won't get long haired babies until she breeds a daughter back to dad. Thanks again for the info.
