Newbie to BP..... Feeding question ?

I'm new to this so I have a couple questions. I got my BP last Friday. Not sure how old he is but he is young. (Pet store did not tell me an age) When do I start trying to feed him ? (after the 7 day waiting period or now) I was told he needs to eat on Mon & Thur... If I move him to a different container to feed him, how is the best way to put him back in his tank without stress ?

Re: Newbie to BP..... Feeding question ?

I'll try to answer this the best I can... if the petstore gave you a feeding log I would feed on the next Monday/Thursday (whichever comes first). If he doesn't take it just leave him be and let him relax..some snakes will be able to eat real soon others wont.

Ask your petstore what they were feeding him, if he's young and still on this twice a day schedule a fuzzy is probably what they used..check to make sure though!

And I feed my girl in a different container so I just turn the heat pad on, let it warm up and put a paper towel bedding down. Put her in and feed her. After she's swallowed and yawned a few times to get her jaw back in place I wait till she's towards the center of the paper towels and pick up the edges so she's kinda in a cocoon, place said cocoon in the tank and let her slither out.

You'll figure out a method that works best for you!!

Re: Newbie to BP..... Feeding question ?

We got our PB from a pet store he skipped a feeding getting used to his new enclosure then went right back to a weekly feeding about 10% of his body weight and he is gaining wheight and size greatly. So it will take a little time for you to figure out what works for your snake. Most pet store only feed to maintain the snake not let it grow from what I have seen and ours has been a pig since he started eating regulary doubled in size and weight in about a month and a half. As far as seeding in a serperate contianer I use a Sterilite 30ish QT tub and just let it warm on his tank place him in let him strike and coil around the F/T food served with tongs via zombie dance. Close him up do some cage maintenance half hour or so then carefully pick him up and return him to his now clean misted ETC enclosure. Hope this helps

    That was Amazing !!!!!!

Like I said before, I am new to this....... That was so cool.... It took about 30 seconds before he started trying to strike ! He missed the first 3 times but I'm sure part of that was because I was shaking so bad... LOL ...... He took the fuzzy, wrapped it up, and it was half way down his body within 4 minutes !!! The total time he was out of his tank was about 5 minutes !!!!

Yes but it was a small lump. When it was about 2/3 down his body it was hard to see the lump.
