Good Breeding Group?
The season is coming up and I am really going to try to start holding back more morphs due to all my breeders are just big normal females. How many of the same morph females/males do you keep??? I was thinking of keeping a 1:2 ratio on the same morph no matter what morph it is such as: pastel 1:2, spider 1:2... Are there any morphs where I should hold back more females of like the base to most morphs? Please let me know I am a newbie at breeding and would like to keep some of my hatchlings to raise!
Do you also suggest breeding lighter females to lighter morphs? Like pastels, maybe mojaves?? Most of my females are really nice with high yellow on the sides but I do have some darker ones in which I am going to breed my pin with.
This is one of my favorite females super bright and nice lil stripe on her!
This season I'm Breeding: Mojaves, Pinstripes, Albinos, Hopefully Pieds, and maybe pastels!!

It really just depends on you and what u want to produce. If you really like the babies then keep them all if u want, or sell what u want and buy another morph. This is where a good breeding plan helps. U have to think about future projects and what u need to get there
A room full of empty racks and thermostats that have been unplugged.

I was just hoping for a general grouping, nothing in specific. I want to get the feel of all the morphs and determine which I like from there and proceed on a project next year

As for dark morphs if you start working with the albino gene the darker the morph or even a dark female the higher contrast the albino will be.
As far as hold backs you kinda have to look ahead and see what you want to produce. If you for example want to work toward producing bees, pewters, fire flies you will hold back more of your pastels so you can breed for all those in one season instead of only having two pastels and one year breed for bees and pewters and have to wait for the following season for you fire flies.

Don't lock your self into a specific ratio for any morph. You will end up with to many males. In you example you said 1.2 pastels and 1.2 spiders. You would be better off with a bee instead of a pastel male and a spider male. If you have the room don't sell any female morphs for the first few years. if you get to the point that you are female heavy with a certain morph trade for something else you need. You snakes will be worth more the older they are.

My plan is to keep one male and all females of every morph for the first few years. Only sell the females off once they are breeder size. Only Build/ Buy more racks if needed. The females are gonna pay for themselves in 2 years. Once ur out of room and want to get a new morph then sell off a few females to make room for one new snake.
Personally id say 1.5/8 of every morph.

More than you realize. I have about 35 balls right counting my hatchlings I still have from this year. I am currently breeding 38 rat tubs with 1.2 in each. I wholesale a lot of pinkies and I am not great about keeping track of which females are slowing down but you get the idea. I sell everything extra I have to the same person. He takes all the pinkies and crawlers I'll give him and anything else I end up with extra of including retired breeders. I make enough to pay for food and bedding and my time to care for the rodents and that's about it. It's worth it to me just to know I can walk out to my building and grab as many rats of any size I need at any time. Sure I could make more selling to other people but it's not worth the hassle to sell 3 or 4 rats to 10 different people and 10 different times. A lot of people are way off when they start thinking about how many rats they need to breed to feed a larger collection.
