    My very first snake!

Hey everyone...figured I oughta post some pics.
Don't have a name for him yet, but this is the albino ball python I bought on August 13th. He hatched on July 11th, and he had eaten 3 meals by the time I got him. First pic was taken the day after I got him into his new home.

His home is a 29 gal. tank.

The top reading on the Accurite digital thermometer/hygrometer I bought is from the temperature probe buried under his substrate on top of the glass tank bottom immediately above the UTH. Prior to getting a dimmer for the UTH the temperature on the hot-spot was 110 degrees F (now down to a more reasonable 95 degrees F thanks to the dimmer I bought).

I control the UTH temperature using a lamp dimmer I bought at Home Depot.

Since I use a UTH, I don't normally use the heat lamp.
As you can see, I've covered most of the tank lid in the hopes of upping the humidity.

Was hoping to get some pics of him tonight (first pic you saw ^^^ was from my wife's cell phone, so I wanted to get some better ones on the digital camera), but he was hunkered-down.

And of course when he did start to come out of his hide I went all paparazzi on him and made him shy away from the camera, but I managed to get a couple shots of him.

There he is ^^^ retreating from my flash-photography intrusion.

    Finally...thanks for having me here...this forum's great and I'm learning a lot!

I am a huge fan of the albinos! Great looking snake and congrats on your new friend!! I love his pattern - his markings are wicked clear - almost looks live a lavender albino in a few of those shots!

    Cheers!

Hehe, figured you did based on your avatar pic...which I've actually been meaning to ask you about, as it catches my eye every time I come across your posts!

Ever since I've worked at a snake breeding company and said I wanted a ball python my wife was totally against the idea. Well, with some persistence I was able to 'convince' her into letting me have one---and I had always found from the thousands of ball pythons at work that the albinos were generally the most docile (I like their 'personalities' best, as it's a far cry from the big boas I work with on a daily basis lol), and since the males tend to stay smaller this is the only snake my wife would agree to.

    Thanks again for the comments.

    Re: My very first snake!

Congrats on getting your ball python. My first ball python was an albino also.
Set up looks great! Be careful with the overhead lamp drying things out, especially when your snake goes into a shed cycle.

Here's a pic of my big 2003 girl with some neighborhood boys.
