Ok so I've got a buddy that wants to borrow my male basically for studding. How do you guys handle things like this? Thanks.

If you were going to consider something like this, I'd make sure you go to where he is and extensively check out his enclosures and collection to be sure your snake will be safe there. Also ask him to keep him on the same feeding schedule you do to avoid issues when you get him back. Just my opinion, those are things I'd do...

Personally all breeding loans happen here. I qt the loan for at least 30 days. I like to do 60. Then the magic happens. I've seen way to Many hell stories of loans going bad to send my kids out anywhere. The one thing I definately suggest is go over as Lgray was saying extensively check EVERYTHING out snake related or not. Then sit down and write up a loan contract. Both of you need a copy and cross your fingers.

Number 1 # females come to me and not the opposite way around.

Usually in a breeding loan the females go to the person who own the male this way the male can breed other female as well, additionally you can control what is bred to your male.

Number 2# Have a solid contract that will detail EVERYTHING:

How the animals are divided the type of split whether it is 50/50, 70/30 etc (split depends on the value of the animals if one is more valuable than the other obviously the person with the most valuable animal will get a bigger split.

    Who gets the first pick

What happen if one animal becomes sick, requires a vet and who will pay for it.

What happens if the animal die how will it be replaced.

    Etc

Friendship can go sour because of breeding loan when time comes to do the slip or if something happen to the animal on a loan.

Now as far as what happen when animals come on a loan with me.

It's 60 days in quarantine than the animals are moved to my snake room where it will be another 30 days before they are being paired to anything.

The most important thing to preserve a friendship.

Make sure to cover all possibilities, extenuating circumstances, and problems that may occur. What if an animal should die? Who will foot the bill for feeders? Will the person who does all the care/incubating/etc get first pick? What about vet visits? Those are just at the top of my head.

Read up on the faunaclassifieds BOI for trades that went bad, and cover all of those instances.

Alright thanks guys. Appreciate it, yah I don't usually entertain such things but he's a friend. I definitely don't want things to get sticky, my male is roughly three times the cost of his female so I'm also worried about that.

He said hes done it a few times and said basically the opposite. That the guy with the female usually gets first pick etc. Will call him up later and have a chat with him. Thanks all!
