    Hog Island breeders/keepers/morphs/pics/discussion

Just wanted to talk a lot about the Hog Island boas.

We have a nearly 5ft female and we just love her to death. She is really the perfect size for one person to handle, great personality and temperament, great feeder. All around she is a very easy snake to keep. Which makes me wonder why they are not more popular.

My understanding is that they are endangered/ unavailable to get from the wild and that is why we do not have any or many color phases of them.

Our care for her is a 40 gallon breeder with a screen lid, aspen shavings, UTH, a water bowl and some decorations. We have never had a problem with her refusing a meal or having a bad shed, all comes off in one piece.

I would love to find a male for her but I can never find one with her shades of salmon and teal. I may just have to bite the bullet and buy a hatchling male to see what he turns out like.

All her pictures should be able to be viewed here. Let me know if they do not show up.
    Maddy, Hog Island Boa

I got her two years ago at a local reptile shop. I don't have any breeder information on her, otherwise I would love to get a male from the same person.

They really are great. They act like a typical boa, which is much different than ball pythons. They seem to be very intelligent.

I have an approx 2yr old male and bought a 4wk old a few wks ago. Obviously I have to wait a few years before the female is ready but can't wait till she is ready!

Would be awesome if you were closer to use my male. You can check out their pics on my iherp page below.

I have a 1.1 pair of Hogs I picked up from Bill Albright in March 2009 that I hope to have ready to breed for next season. These are one of my favourite dwarf boa constrictors due to their unique light colouration, as well as their slender frame compared to mainland boas. I love the colour changes these guys go through during the course of a typical day, between light, dark, and somewhere in the middle. The light phase is probably the most stunning. I don't have any recent photos of them, however, as they are difficult to get to pose, but I will try to get some soon.

What is everyone keeping their hogs at (temp and humidity)? Have you ever had any health issues with them (bad sheds, refusing to eat, RI, etc)?

I'm hoping to pick up a Hog Island at the Sacramento reptile show at the end of October.
Anyone on here been to this show? What are the chances of finding Hog's for sale?

Never been, sorry. At the Daytona Expo there were at least two vendors with baby hogs. Maybe you can find out who will be vending the show and request them bring you a hog or at least hold one for you? I know people make special requests all the time.

You will love your hog island.
