How many years in a row do you breed females?

Is it bad to breed a female year after year even if she puts all of her weight back on? I have yet to breed at all but I am going to be picking up a pair of proven het ghosts from a breeder I have bought from in the past. She has bred the last three years.

I don't have any problems giving her a year off if need be. If she puts all of her weight back on I would love to try to make my own ghosts this year.

Females will take a break when they need to. I would breed her if you want and see what happens. Just don't be shocked if she doesn't go for you. Three years is a good run.

We look at the overall health of the girl. If she is thick and solid then she will be in the breeding group. If she looks thin and not solid then I hold her for a year. Some girls also just stay small and that is why good records on your breeders is required.

when a female lays a clutch of eggs, she will lose around 1/3 of her body weight on average. so it's very important to have her weight back on. if you don't, then she might not be able to support the developement of her next clutch. you might end up with mostly slugs or a small clutch. you would of been better off giving her the extra time needed to recover. I feel that her condition is more impotant than how many times she breed in a row.
