Holy snakes! Star running back survives reptile in helmet
I saw this and figured I would share it with you all. (I didn't see it posted anywhere please delete if it's a repost)

a Gravette assistant coach was able to confirm that the snake which hid in Strzelecki's helmet was non-venomous after killing it shortly after it slipped out of his head gear
So ya.. My question is why kill it in the first place?
(Not sure where to put this so please move it if I have it posted in the wrong forum)

Because they didn't know if it was venomous..

I think you took my post far too seriously, but I still can't ID pretty much any venomous snake in any area. Doesn't mean I'd kill it.

That story seems a little odd to me, he had the helmet on for some time, and never noticed a snake in it, til he decided to take it off and get a drink of water hmmmm

It strikes me of the bristlecone pine that they killed to find out how old it was, too bad it was one of the oldest things on the planet at 4700 years. Killing something to ID it does not seem like a good idea to me either, it doesn't sound like it bit him so what difference does it make venomous or not just relocate it and be done with it.

i really didnt like the coach's statement "all snake are deadly in my book", come on, really? whos ever heard of a cornsnake killing someone, or a garter for that matter

They kill rodents and he REALLY likes rodents.
