Question about babie's eyes
So my black rat had a whopping 15 babies late last night. They all have milk in their little bellies so she is doing a good job. I got 8.7.
But I have a question... This was from black hooded x black with white underbelly markings.
Some of the babies have dark eyes and the others do not. Why?

Recessive genes my dear!
Both of your rats probably carried either the red eye dilution, or the pink eye dilution.
OR, maybe there's some himilayan in there somewhere!

Crazy... I didn't think that was possible. I really hope she takes good care of em all!!

Many to most rats carry red eye dilute, it's just a matter of both parents carrying it and the odds of the two genes coming together in the kits.
Pretty kewl how you can tell if they are red eyed or not at birth.

I can't wait to see what they will look like ... Will they be white then or ? I need to go look up rat colors I guess. lol.
Could it also be pink eyed even?
Looks like they could be white, beige, champagne, ...
I bet they will be beige as it says beige rats are black with their coats lighted with the red eye dilute gene and momma was black.

Your correct, there's a good probability that they will be beige.

Cool. Good deal. Probably won't hold back any of those, but maybe. Wonder what colors the others will be ... probably just the same as mom and dad huh.

Yes, blacks that don't carry blue or Siamese tend to throw black's and beige's.
