P/K really works! F/T next?
My 3 year-old ~1900g het Albino female, Rosalind, is one of the pickier feeders in my collection... prior to tonight, she would only take live rats, no mice no f/t or anything else. When you do give her a live rat (as I do weekly) she's an awesome feeder, as you can tell by her healthy weight. I'm not necessarily opposed to live rats, but I do prefer to feed mice to my live-only snakes, as there's less chance of them (and me) being injured. Not to mention, the sound and sight of a full-sized rat being killed is just - yikes. Ideally I'd like to get her & my other live feeders on f/t, as it's safer and more cost-effective overall. Right?
Tonight I decided to do an experiment, since I found out my local supplier was willing to pre-kill for me (I can't do it myself). So I got a fresh pre-killed rat for Rosalind, and she totally went for it! I laid it in front of her and she looked at it, looked at me, and then attacked it like a live rat. I've heard this is the first step in converting to f/t, so does that really work? And how many p/k meals should I offer before trying frozen? Now it's time to get my other picky BPs started on the process, LOL.
