How weird they hatch out sometimes...

More babies have emerged. These two are from Lois's clutch(PH pied) bred to Peter(pastel male).

When they emerged, they both look rather bizarre. One may be a pastel(you can see the light head, etc) but I wouldn't be at all surprised if both look identically normal after the first shed. I think it's amusing the way some babies hatch extra light or with smeared looking colors, then turn normal with that first shed. The darker one has remarkably bright yellow down his back but greyish on his sides(he's almost definitely a normal, has the smudges on his sides to 'prove' normal status), the very washed out smaller baby may turn out to be a fairly low-grade pastel, but I'm not holding my breath on it.

Pics taken in full bright sunlight and I haven't sexed either of them as they have bellies very full of yolk and I don't want any squeezings of the babies even to sex them. I'll do that once they've shed once. There's two more babies in the eggs still, poking their heads out and laughing at my impatience. Only one more clutch in the incubator!

I didn't weigh them, was concerned with just putting them into the bin, so I'll get them out later to get a weight really quick. They aren't huge, it's mostly yolk/fluid as far as I can tell.

It is interesting looking at all the variations that come from these little ones. The bottoms hatchling has an amazing pattern.

Top pic does look like a Pastel. I had one like that this year, she is starting to color up a little now. They are both good looking babies though.
