    Speaking of Caramel Albinos

How do you feel about caramel kinking? Are all of this morph either carriers or visuals of the defect similar to the spider wobble or is there actually some animals that do not produce kinked offspring and some that do? I see people selling kinked and non kinked caramels out of the same clutch the non kinked for like double the price. However, to my thinking the unkinked would be just as likely to produce kinked as the kinked would be seeing how they both came from a carrier parent. How do you feel about all of this?

Yeah, I have heard people who work with them say that even if you work with non-kinked snakes and breed across lines, sooner or later you will still produce a kinked animal. I don't know that anyone's run the numbers on it, but it's keeping me from working with caramels.

Which kills me, because I love the colors. Ultramels don't do it for me--- they just don't seem to have the purples you see in a lot of caramels. Ultramels don't seem to glow the same way.

    Re: Speaking of Caramel Albinos

There are some breeders (such as Bill Buchman) that produce no kinks, even after producing several in their collection. The key seems to be crossing different lines, and being very diligent in your record keeping. Apparently line-breeding will not work with this morph. However, the jury's still out on whether homozygous females are able to produce viable clutches with great frequency...

I will check into Bill Buchman. I am so interested in this morph! I already have heard about the female homos. I would plan to acquire a male visual and a female codom het.

Ultramels are just too durn expensive for me at the moment. They look really similar to me but I will look more carefully for the points you have mentioned. TY
