    Does this sound like an eggbound female?

    My large female ball python is showing me signs of eggs I am hoping. The first one was that she shed not long ago and is already shedding again which I am hoping is prelay. Also, a couple months ago she would alwyas be on the cool side. Now she seems to be over the heat. Does this sound like an eggbound female? Will female still eat when they havve eggs cause she has been agressively feeding the whole time I had her. She was bred to my spider.

    Eggbound no.. Possibly gravid.. Maybe..

    Eggbound=bad

    Gravid=hooray!

    But gravid females generally do not eat.

    I'm assuming by egg bound you are asking if she could have eggs inside? Typically egg bound is a reference to a condition in which the female is unable to release the eggs which can lead to some serious problems. That said, she is more than likely gravid. Post some pics.

    if shes still eating shes not gravid. she may be building so u may want to keep pairing them up. april is late to start pairing so you will prolly have more luck now. how much does she currently weigh?

    I have to disagree. To say that if she's eating then she's not gravid is not always true. Yes for most females once you start your breeding season and even more so once they begin to build and ovulate they stop eating. Not all females do this. We have a couple that ate all through breeding,ov and while gravid. Being big fat and full of eggs didn't stop these girls from missing a meal. I agree that it's not common for them to continue eating while gravid but it's not a set in stone fact.

    Re: Does this sound like an eggbound female?

    Did you palpate this female? Did you witness an ovulation?

    Before I would worry about the female being eggbound I would try to figure out if the female is gravid or not which in the case is still in question.

    Once female ovulate the pre-lay shed happens within 14 days after that count another 30 days before eggs are laid (sometimes longer)

    At some point after pre-lay you will be able to see the eggs and even count them.

    I am not worried about eggbound I used the wrong word lol it was late. Yes she is still eating and is way over 2000 grams maybe cloe to 3000 I am not sure she is to big for my scale. I stopped pairing about3 months ago and I did not really witness ovulation. How do I post a picture so I can show you guys?

    You have to upload via photobucket etc. Then post the share link here. There are a few how tos in the general or member forums, might even be a sticky on the bp photos forum. Sorry on a phone so I can't switch back and forth while posting.
