    Question Boa growth

I was looking over my records and I realized that my little boa is a year old. She seems so small. She's maybe 2ft and 250g. I got her back in May and she was only around 100g then. That is small for a yearling right?

When I got her I was feeding her 1 rat pup a week and you could see a noticeable lump after she ate. Recently I uped her feedings to 2 rat pups a week (weaned rats still seem a little too big). She eats every time and has shed twice since I got her. Is she just a really small boa or am I feeding her wrong?

    Re: Boa growth

RTB's tend to grow slowly for the first 9-12 months. I believe it has something to do with the development of their digestive system and it's ability to fully process a meal. That is why baby boas can be more prone to regurgitations and alot of keepers feed on a 10-14 day schedule. You should start seeing more substantial growth over the next few months.

Thanks! I was just a little worried because my 3 month old ball python is already more than half her size, but if she's is growing right on track then that's great.

Boas do grow a little slower in the first year and after that they can grow pretty quickly. And for your feeding question, I find they can eat anywhere from 1 - 1.5x the size of their belly. But its best to not go to the 1.5x size rat unless you see really good feeding responses.
