Breeding Question.

I know that BP's will often skip a breeding season due to the physical toll it takes out of them. Is this true for both females and males?

I just picked up a few het axanthics off a breeder who was getting out of the game. I got 1.1 Pastel Het Axanthics and 0.2 WildType Het Axanthics. I was planning on selling the normals but if the female pastel will skip a year of breeding would it make more sense to hang onto a normal het to help increase my chances of getting an axanthic clutch? In Toronto it's difficult to find axanthics so I want to help bring them back to the market.

well I have 3 females and one male with the axanthic gene. Can you bread all 3 females to the one male?

If they r all healthy, from the same breeder, and all het axanthic then breed the male to all three. Atleast put him in and see what happens. With hets u don't have as high of a chance so with three females u have better odds

I actually got a really good deal. I paid $100 a snake. I really want the two pastels to copulate, they both carry the axanthic gene so my chances of getting something cooler than a normy are better. I didn't really wanna bread the normy hets because I don't want a clutch full of normals that I have to feed lol. But maybe I'll hang onto one and breed at 1 to 2. Thanks guys.

I am still curious about whether the males take a year off or if its just the females that refuse to breed?

I think you should attempt to breed all 3 females to the male. They may not all take so you will increase your chances of at least having one clutch. You may not hit the Super Pastel Axanthic but you still have a shot at a Pastel Axanthic/Axanthic.

As far as skipping a season, breeding will take a toll on the male in terms of weight loss if he stops eating during the season but as long as you get him back up to an acceptable weight and he is healhty prior to the next season he should be good to go.

This is only my first year breeding but through my research not all females neccessarily skip a season.
