Leo genetics
I understand snake genetics, breed an axanthic to a pied you get double hets. Bring those together later and you get axanthic pieds. Those are easy to understand, but for some reason I can't get it together when it comes to leopard geckos.
What are hets, what are co-doms? How do you tell the difference between a raptor or an aptor or a tremper albino and a LV albino. Or Mack snows, super snows, or diablo blancos.
I used to have a couple normal ones when I lived in California, so I know how to keep and fare for them, but now I want to try a breeding project/colony so any help understanding genetics would be great.

It's the same, with the addition that some are selectively bred to enhance a certain trait. For example, carrot tails.

It was hard for me to understand too ... I get it better now after much research.
You have to remember that a lot of those names are designer names like "bumblebee" is a pastel spider.

Re: Leo genetics
I get that, but how about if I wanted to breed a carrot tail to a snow? Are both genes co-dom so you get one of each and one that has both genes? Or is one a recessive and you get hets with a co-dom of the other?

carrot tail is more of a trait than a gene I think ... you get possible carrot tail out of the babies and snow is a codom gene, where you can get normals, snows, or super snows.

Here's another way to think of it, some are genetic mutations, some are more like 'breeds'.
