I went to my first Reptile Expo yesterday :D

    It was so much fun.
I was kinda disappointed in the lack of BP morphs, i thought i'd see a lot more.
Mostly just pastels, mojaves, and spiders, saw one pinstripe though, but no pieds!
Not that i could afford one
But it still would have been awesome to see one in real life

Oh, and red tailed boas, my goodness, that beast is on my Very-Near-Future-Pets list.

    Anyway, just sharing my excitement

There was also a venomoid King Cobra, that none the less was terrifying haha.

I guess not all reptile shows are equal. I know Daytona will have tons of ball python morphs. I always take a ton of pictures and I'm totally willing to share pics for you though!
All reptile shows are usually at least some fun though!

I've never seen a venomoid cobra... only regular ones. Did it have the little inserts or did it have the hollows where the venom glands would be? Could you tell?

It had the hollows were the glands should be, the guy said he rescued it venamoid.
It seems like it's a pretty touchy subject >>
But this dude was on the 'for' side of it. He said he had like, 14 venamoids at home, including a black mamba, and others like rattlers and monocleds/spitting cobras.
And he had i think 6 still venomous snakes, including a South Western Rattler.
He said he sees no difference in any area between his venomous/venamoid snakes, and that so far as his herp vet tells him they're all healthy.
I thought that was weird cause i've read that taking the venom away can hurt their digestive tract and what not...

    anywho, sorry for rambling on

Yeah, it's a very touchy subject across the reptile world. I'm neither for nor against it, although I would not own a venomoid myself, because I have heard of them growing the venom gland back if it's improperly removed, and I've heard the digestion argument as well.

I love to look at the venomous at show, I find them fascinating, but I prefer when they ARE in a seperate area and locked in proper displays so there won't be accidents. I've never been to any show where the venomous looked like they were improperly contained though. Always looked very safe.

But I prefer to browse through all the ball pythons, the blackheaded pythons, the AFT geckos.. the leachie geckos... love those leachies... love to see animals I'll never be able to afford, never have the time to properly keep, etc. It's like a free zoo! And you can buy things too! And talk to tons of people who ALSO love snakes and own them! Whooo! Shows rock!

Re: I went to my first Reptile Expo yesterday :D

I went to my second expo yesterday. Saw no venoumous snakes, but I did see poison dart frogs. :3
The BP morphs I saw the most were Normals(picked a pretty normal girl out for myself. :3), Pastels, I saw Black Pastel, Bumblebee, Ghost Fire, Blue Eyed Lucy, Pinstripes, Albinos(I saw a lot more than I thought), saw a clown that wasn't for sale and two pie balds also not for sale. THEY WERE SO PRETTY I WANT ONE.
I saw a RTB there(I think it was an RTB) that was HUGE! 7-8 feet or more, really thick around! Pretty snake, but GINORMOUS. XD
    I had fun there. :3

wow, could you imagine that black mamba growing it's venom back? That is a terrifying thought.
This guy had an entire shop we went and looked at afterward, and the venomous Rattler was there, but he has it locked up rather well.
Yes, the BP were easily my favorite There was on Albino male who was sooo lovely and felt like melted chocolate when i held him.
Also the little Rainbow Boas were so cute ^^ They also had Axolotls and Hedge hogs, both of which I've always tampered with the idea of getting.

I think we went to the same show fluffpuffgerbil, did you go to the Oregon one, by Portland? There were tones of little dart frogs! But i didn't see the pieds D; Though i did go significantly later in the day.
Was the RTB on some guys shoulders? thats the one that made me want one

The one in Wilsonville in the Holiday Inn? Yes, I went to that one. There was a lot of dart frogs!
The pied I saw was at the Gecko Exotics table. One of the ladies who worked at that table had a piebald with her. That's where I got my BP.
Yeah, I think the RTB was around the guy's shoulders. :3
    I got there around 1.
(I also saw a lot of het pieds for sale!, but the craziest thing I saw was a silkback bearded dragon!)

whats the deal with that? i saw some in the last show i went to also, it did not occur to me until reading this, like "whoa, they are actually selling those" i remember i was buying some drift wood and in the table next to that they had a bunch of those frogs and one guy was actually buying one. Is't that illegal?

    Bugbug

i was thinking of a red tailed boa for my next snake, i always loved them, but if it wasent for so many stories of them being so aggressive, or that they could be tamed for a while but eventually get aggressive, i stear away....

Well, I think I read or heard on a show that they are poisonous in the wild because of what they eat. They eat something different in captivity, so they aren't poisonous/not as poisonous or something like that.

on the topic of a venamoid i know for a fact generally they are more aggressive when the gland is removed. but anyone who deals with venomous snakes will tell you they dont support the removal of the glad like previously stated it is a very touchy subject. i have a close friend that deals a lot with venomous snakes that had some one give him a venamoid king cobra that constantly would bite. just my .02 cents
