Are males more dominant in color and kind when breeding?
Let's say you want a bright colored bumble bee, would it better to have a Pastel male and female spider then vice versa?
Or would it be better to have a male bumblebee x pastel female than vice versa?

Makes no difference who carries the gene sex wise. With a bumble bee your odds of producing let's say a bumble bee or pastels vs spiders would be greater.

One thing to keep in mind is you can breed the male to more then one female, this is why people usually get a multi gene male. So if you got a bumblebee male you could breed him to a pastel, lesser, pin etc female. Just a thought.

Also not sure if you were planning on breeding this season but you'll only have a few months to get your animals up to size. Males anywhere from 450+ grams, female 1300+ grams.
You have two options. Option one is to buy a well started male bumblebee 300-400 grams, you can prob put on a few hundred by November, then look for an adult female lesser, pastel, etc. This would be the most practical option.
Or if your willing to wait till next season, find yourself a great sub adult female now with good size on her (800+ grams) and then spend the year finding an early 2012, late 2011 male to put to her.
Anyway it would probably be cheaper to find a subadult female lesser etc then a subadult/adult female bumblebee.

very good point. I will change it then to a Male be.
No plans on breeding yet as all I have now are hatchlings. Hopefully next year I will be able to do so already.
Thank you very much for your suggestion, they are very well taken.
