My friend told me this crazy story when I told her I have a ball python. She said that some girl slept with her ball python and then every night the snake would stretch itself out next to her- to size her up to eat her! As much trouble as it is to just get them to eat what they're supposed to, it's funny that urban legend can get around at all... and she told me this as a warning...!
Someone else at the pet store today apparently thought that ALL snakes are poisonous and wouldnt let her daughter go near the tanks they were kept in. Heard any crazy BP rumors lately?

Yup, heard the exact same one from a co-worked last month. That is the most common story I hear when I tell people I have snakes...

I'm a petite person, so if I owned a burm or anything of that size, it could very well possibly eat me.

But I don't own a burm. I own a bp. And so far, everyone who knows I have a python, but doesn't know anything about them has told me that it's going to eat me. Hahahah, although, I must say I'm excited for the day when my grandmother finds out I have a limbless, scaly friend.. She'll never come up to visit ever again. XD

I have a friend who likes to say my snakes are going to eat my black lab.

I think at this point he considers it a joke, but I always answer with a serious reply of "That's not possible".

My officemate was also convinced that all snakes grow up to be man eating monsters. I would love to see my male KSB try to eat me.

You want to hear a crazy story. I had a teacher in 5 grade who had a 6 foot gator that would lay on the cough with its head in his lap. Now thats something that might actually eat him haha

It is pretty amazing how one stupid story gets around. My brother's friend told me the exact same thing (and of course by that point I'd already heard it several times before), with wide eyes: "Just be careful if it starts stretching out next to you"

I've heard so many ridiculous things about bps and snakes in general: that they will escape and eat me, my cat, etc, that they only grow as large as their enclosure, that they can't feel pain, that they have blue blood... on and on. It's one of the things that drives me to be an educator, because even if I only reach a few people, it's better than them going around thinking snakes stretch out next to their prey before they eat it.

one of my daughters friends in the neighborhood started telling me about the florida girl when she saw my ball python.
i was like
"ok, 1) theres more to that story then you know & 2) that was a burmese python, this is a ball python..."
she was like "whats the difference? they're both pythons."
i said "yes your right, they are both pythons but theres about 10-maybe 12 feet of difference between a ball & a burmese."

my daughter also came home from school one day last year saying that all pythons are poisonous.
i simply said "tell your little friends to do their research before they start spewing uneducated, obnoxous ramblings like that."

Hahaha... eat your black lab...! My sister told me that I was an idiot because ball pythons get big enough to eat me. I am NOT actually a small gal....
