low quality calico???
just want to ask if i breed a low quality calico to any morph, will it produce low quality calico too?
-
-
It more than likely will, unless you breed it to a higher quality calico, which may throw higher quality calicos as offspring. Stranger things have happened with genetics though, so you never know. We still can't fully predict how everything will come out when it comes to genetics. Every now and then we get surprises.
1.0 Normal - Maynard
1.0 POG - Victor
0.1 YB - Diana
0.1 Pastel Boa - Astrid
1.0 Salmon Boa -
1.1 Leopard Geckos
0.3.2 Inverts

Re: low quality calico???
I think calicos are kinda like pieds, you never know how much white they are gonna throw in their offspring.
Currently have
2.3 pastel's
0.1 spider
0.1 normal
1.1 100% het albino's
1.0 Albino ( he will live at work but i get to take care of him)
1.0 Cinnamon
1.0 Fire

This is true, calicos are random like pieds and can throw off a variety of white. Some may say one line of calico is whiter than another but that is a differnt discussion.

Agree with the info above. Sugars and Calicos can show low visual and throw high visual offspring and vice versa. I've seen some jaw dropping Sugar Pastels that came off a snake that many untrained eyes would consider a "normal". It's a crap shoot.

Low quality calico, i notice it has a yellow stain near the tail, is this a dinker or normal low quality calico?

I believe the yellow stain that you're referring to is a ringer. I have a Calico that has that as well. Mine i from the Flora and Fauna line ( think that's what it's called ), is yours?

Can any of the experienced breeders here who have produced a number of pieds and/or calicos confirm this?
I cant help but think that they are like any other morph, that yes a low white calico CAN produce high whites. However 2 browned out ugly pastels CAN produce screamers, but will more than likely produce more ugly pastels.
I have spoken to breeders who have claimed that high whites TEND to throw high whites and low whites TEND to throw low whites. And then others say it is totally random.
So does the quality of the parent effect the offspring? Or is it a roll of the dice?

I bought my Calico from Mike Cole ( Ballroom Pythons South ) and that is what he told me. The Calico are like Pied in that you can have a low white have high white offspring.
