If you need the rack, or might need it soon, get the rack. If you're putting ball pythons in it, though, you don't need the ND. You can always get a good bee, there are plenty of people who have them available. Shipping on a rack is likely to be more!

I would get the herpstat if I were you. You can always buy more snakes once you have the herpstat. As was already stated, it is very important to make sure you have the proper equipement for your animals. I am going to be getting a herpstat myself within the next two weeks. Peace of mind with a reliable thermostat is very important IMO.

Herpstats rock and there's nothing wrong with buying a rack if you are not a DIYer. If you are a DIY you can search my thread on how to build your own XPVC rack for cheap. Proper husbandry is more important than adding more snakes! Best of luck!
