    Wha?

So, I feel really bad about this. I had lit a candle inside a candle holder this evening. I set it down briefly on top of my snake's tank to put the lighter away, and he came out quickly, tracked the candle, and struck at it! It was outside the tank, so he didn't get at it, and his head is okay, but I am still bewildered by the whole thing. He ate two days ago.

So... was this an "I'm still hungry" strike? And if so, was it the heat and/or smell that attracted him? (the candles are scentless) Or was this a "get that thing away from my tank" strike? Thanks!

    Hi,

    Honestly don't know - but I wouldn't put a candle there again.

well, my hypothesis: Snakes in the wild are opportunistic, so he doesn't really care that he only ate two days ago. Since they've got poor eyesight and those heat sensors, he might have just seen a really hot something moving around and tried giving it a go on impulse.
But yeah, just don't put a candle there again
