Reptibators Any Good?
A guy wants to sell me his Reptibator for $50 and was wondering if it was worth it. He says he used it for Bearded Dragons and it worked fine but he needs to get something bigger.
I have read mixed reviews. What do you think?
Thanks.

It only holds a couple clutches, I use a mini fridge that I picked up for $20 and it can hold 6 clutches. Think about your long term breeding plans.

If you put the eggs in sealed egg boxes inside the incubator, you might be able to fit 2 clutches in it, and it works ok.
That having been said, it doesn't hold humidity worth a darn, and you can fit half a dozen clutches in a Hovabator if you set it up with fluorescent light grid over the water reservoir, and place the clutches directly on the grid. (I control mine with a Herpstat, not the wafer thermostat it comes with).
I had high hopes for the Repti-bator. I intended to use it the same way I had used Hovabators, with the convenience of the built-in thermostat. Unfortunately, it's poorly designed for incubating reptile eggs, most of which require a high humidity. It has too many air gaps, the bottom is full of holes, and the sponge-like humidity mat simply doesn't work. If you could find a sealant that doesn't eat styrofoam, you might be able to fix it, but probably not.

Well, I only plan for 2 clutches tops this year. So it should do. I also can't find a used mini fridge at all.

Aside from the small size, I've been told that it's very good except you've got to watch the humidity with it. I was tipped off to use vermiculite in it to hold humidity a bit better.

I successfully hatched my first clutch this year using the reptibator.
Just keep a therm/hygro in the container with the eggs.

Ernie.

Ditto
I'm incubating my first two clutches in a reptibator and all is looking good after a little fine tuning. Humidity in the boxes are at about 98% with press n seal. I concur that they don't hold humidity for nothing but its not a problem if you using egg containers.

To keep humidity in the bator higher just rip pieces of paper towel and put them in the 4 side ventilation holes on the top of the sty-ra-fome... Sorry can't spell that.
Don't worry about the bottom ones.
Also,
The water undr the foam mat does dry up after about 3 weeks so FYI. Check periodically.

Ernie.
