Smile Hello, new owner here :)

    Hello people of the forum

So i got my Baby Ball Python 5 days ago, and she (assumed female) just ate her first Fuzzy (F/T) since shes been with me. woot!

(Though from reading more threads on here, I'm guessing she could handle an adult mouse.)

Aside from that though, it's a good sign that shes eaten this soon right?

Also, i know i have to wait another weekish to hold her, but once that time period is over, and she eats again, how long should I wait after shes eaten to hold her, so that she doesnt puke up her food?

And her name is Nagini, because i'm horrible about naming pets, and a Harry Potter nerd. Plus she has lightening bolt marks under her chin so like, destiny, right?

Welcome and congrats on the new baby! She's adorable!

As for waiting after feeding, you should let her digest her food for about 48 hours after feeding then you can handle her again. I've seen others say 24 hours but better safe than sorry. I believe the general consensus is 48 hours.

    Welcome to BP.net

Since she is new, you will want to limit your handling time to no more than 10 min., until she has taken a few meals consistently.

Nice snake. I typically try to wait a week to handle a new snake, but sometimes I don't make it, especially when quarantine is in my bedroom, and I get to stare at them all day. As for the wait period after eating, some choose to wait 24hrs, some 48hrs, both are practiced without any problems, though less than 24 is not advised.

    thanks for the quick replies!

Okay, i will wait 3 days to be on the safe side o___o i cant imagine barfed up mouse is a pretty thing to behold.
    haha

and yup, i will be slow in introducing her to frequent handling (:

    edit-
Wow you guys reply very fast haha i cant keep up ^^

I do find forums do that to a person, hours of my life have gone to guinea pig forums harhar.
And I know, right? i love her markings so much!

Bsavage, the wait has been horrid!
Is it okay to do only one week? The people I got her from held her everyday and said shes quite socialized for a babe, she doesnt seem to be scared and from what I've read has adapted to the new environment pretty quickly. You think 1 week would be long enough?

again, thanks everyone for the warm welcome (:

Re: Hello, new owner here :)

    First off, WELCOME!

Your new Ball is so cute. That's fantastic that she ate, definitely a good sign! Usually waiting two days after a meal is ideal. I never handle my snakes the day after they ate unless I need to pick them up for spot cleaning, but that's basically it. Waiting for 48 hours is worth it!

By the way, I LOVE HER NAME!! I am such a Harry Potter nerd, I swear. I was so thinking of naming my next male Ball after Naghini LOL!

thanks for all the new welcomes ^^

I waited for 3 days, and then a couple days later when i finally held her, the second i put her down she was, erm, using the bathroom

Everyone on FB is lol'ing at me for her name

I do have another question... well, two,

    1. Okay, so i have a 30 gallon glass tank with a wire mesh top, thats covered in tin foil except for where the heat lamp is. I thought the foil was s'pose to help with humidity, but its still really dry. ideas?

    2. When shes crawling around on me, she often presses her chin down on me with more force than the rest of her body, particularly between my fingers and on my wrist. Does anyone know what this means...?

    thanks all ^^
