dammit stop acting stupid!
so there has been a heat wave here in NYC, and i have had the infrared lamp and the UTH off for the past few days and still getting ambient temps of 90-93, well today it was supposed to "cool down" so when i wake up before going to work, i notice ambient temps are at around 85, on both sides, so i say ok, im gonna hook the UTH/Herpstat back on just incase, but not the infrared lamp. Well i come home tonight from work, to find both digital thermo saying its 78 degrees, and this guy is in his cold side hide. Dammit! Anyways i did notice alot of the bedding had been moved from the hot side hide where the UTH is and was on, so i know he was there for a while, but eventually went back to the cold side where it was at 78! I know what it is, and i suspected this for a while but today i took action. The hot side hide (both hides are identical) faces the front of the tank (the part that is not blacked out) more than the cold side hide, so whatver, i went ahead and took him out, and places the hot side hide facing more towards the back and threw in more aspend bedding on and aroundthe hide so its ALOT more hidden and "covered up"
Im still a little worried as when i picked him up he was very cold to the touch. Is a few hours of 78-79 temps enough to get him sick, or even RI?
Right now im handling him for a bit while the tank warms up, i will wait until the hot side is atleast 90 before placing him back. He does seem fine though...

RELAX!! Temperatures from 78-80 are fine, he won't get an RI from 78 on the cool side. You don't want the ambient temp to drop below 75, that's when you'll start to see issues, but 78 is perfectly fine
P.S. unless you're using the heat lamp to keep the ambient temps around the cage up, you won't really need it. Just the heat mat on the warm side set to keep it around 90 over the mat in the enclosure is perfect.

I agree with the above posts, especially dr del! You definitely need thermostats to regulate the temps! This will keep your temps in the needed ranges and releive you of the worrying you're going through now. Alot safer for all involved
