Good stuff! Another species I've owned, lol. Never gave him crabs, though. He did like to disembowel his mice, which only took one quick swipe of those razors on the ends of his toes...

    Lovin' your enclosure, Greg

That was my point on making the video. There was a debate on another site,on why they disembowel mice. These guys eat mostly crabs in the wild. And if you watch the video,he uses his claws to rip apart the crab,so I think this comes from the way they eat there prey. But what I find funny is not all Dumeriliis do this.My male dose and my female dose not.I have also kept a few other dums and they did not do it,but a friend of mine had one who did.

Of all the monitors I have worked with these are my favorites(Rudis a close second)If you can find a good healthy one and get them set up right, they are blast to work with. They do spend most of the day hiding but they are not shy like other monitors. They don't like to held(but what monitor dose),but when I go into the cage they will come to me.They don't mind me in the cage and they are very curios about what I'm doing. You can touch them, just don't try and pick them up.If they weren't all wild caught and have special humidity requirements I would recommend them as a good monitor to start with.
