    Growth Rate Question

I bought a young female BCI from JPC Boas back in April. I was told she was 11 months old, and she was roughly 2ft long at the time.

Now she's ~15 months old and she's only grown a few inches. I don't have my records in front of me, but if I remember correctly, she was roughly 340 grams last time I weighed her. She eats one small f/t rat every two weeks (she won't take food any sooner).

As I understand it, BCIs are supposed to reach 4 - 5 ft by the end of their second year. Should I be concerned? Am I doing something wrong? Or do I just have my facts wrong?

All depends on where they came from. I have a Nicaraguan BCI, It's about 2 ft and is 17 months old. Eats like a garbage can though. I don't think you're doing anything wrong.

Nothing wrong. I have a BCC that is 2 years old and she is only 4ft but has excellent muscle tone and a healthy thickness for her length. I was assured by some boa breeders that some just grow slower and it's perfectly normal. Mine seems to only have a couple major growth spurts per year and then stops growing for awhile.

It's actually much healthier in my opinion. It assures a more natural growth rate with less chance of obesity. Which means a healthier and longer lived snake.

There was no locality label on her at the show, which leads me to believe she's a Colombian. I'll be pissed if she's any of the "dwarf" localities.

But okay, that's good to know I'm doing things right. Maybe I'm just a bit overeager to have a big snake XD
