Nooo Mites!

Hey everyone, woke up this morning went in to the snake room to check on them. I found 2 girls soaking in their water dishes the tanks were side by side by one of the tanks was divided with my pastel male ont he otherside. I looked very very closely at them all, seen 8 mites and killed them between the 3 snakes. I went and move all 3 into bins, washed their hides (they have new ones now) set them aside. I had them on plantation soil every bit of it in the entire room is gone everyone is on paper towels now. Every tanks has been cleaned and soaked with water&soap in a bit ill dump them out and wipe with bleach water.
But what should i do for the snakes? i used to work at a petstore they carried jarasic mite off. I sold it to ppl but they nvr really came back n told me about how it worked. So what should i do/use besides baths(with clean warm water and wiping them off their faces with mineral oil) and cleaning vigorusly?

There are products like prevent-a-mite that treat the cage, and the only stuff that you can spray directly on your reptile that I know of is reptile relief. But some people say reptile relief works great and some hate it and say it hurts your reptile...I'm not really sure so try to find some online reviews of it. Good luck!

I once took mites home from a Reptile show! After being reluctant to get PAM, I finally picked it up, and in one treatment, they were gone! (We did another after that, just to be sure)
Hands down the best product out there for getting rid of reptile mites. Just make sure to read and FOLLOW the directions on the can (like don't spray the snake, or the water bowl etc etc).

I still have a trusty can in my basement just in case!

I have used reptile relief after finding a few mites on my snakes.

1. I sprayed them with reptile relief and put them all in separate locking tubs. for 15 min each. (don't over spray, you don't want any run down)
2. At the same time I took all the tubs, hides and bowls and soaked them all at once in the tub with bleach making sure that all items were completely submerged.
3. Then I rinsed off each snake and soaked them in water at room temp. for at least 15 to re-hydrate them.
4. At the same time empty out the bleach water. Rinse all items, and soak in plain water for another 15 min.
5. Spray down rack and surrounding area with reptile relief and wipe down.
6. I Dried all tubs and hides and set back up with white newspaper.
7. Dried each snake and applied Nature Zone Benson & Sons Snake Oil (for skin problems from cuts, scrapes, MITES, and bites) and returned them to their tubs.

They seemed much happier afterword in fact I had all 8 snakes eat for the first time the next day. I will say that treating them with reptile relief will make them go into shed. You can't spray reptile relief on the snake that just shed within the last 6 hours.

1 week later I repeated the treatment. I have been doing all of it again for the last 2 weeks when I clean except for applying reptile relief directly on the snakes. I just soak them.

I haven't seen a mite again for a while but I just want to make sure.

I don't have any PAM but I intend to buy some soon. I used the reptile relief because I could find it. Good luck.

PS- I have learned my lesson about holding animals at reptile shows and not changing my clothes when I come home.

My BP had mites when I got her, I was told to get Reptile Spray. It's made by Natural Chemistry. I found it at my local pet store and followed the instructions on the bottle. I washed out her tank (we didn't see the mites until about a week after we got her home) then Reptile Sprayed the tank and everything in it while she was in the bath tub. Then sprayed her directly with the spray befoe putting in her clean tank. No more Mites, tada!

you must be super diligent in this and even if you think it is safe to stop treatment, keep doing it for another 2weeks at a minimum pretty simple to figure out how to use the products but if you have questions let me know.
