    Stargazing

I've been seeing a lot of people talk about stargazing on this forum, but I've never really understood what it is, so I have a few questions about it.

    What exactly is stargazing?

What's so bad about it/ what does it do?

    How do you spot it?

What causes it and how do you prevent it?

    Thanks

Stargazing can be a symptom of a wide range of neurological issues. It's been known to show up with IBD and also overheating (which causes permanent neurological damage). It looks exactly how it sounds, the snake bends over backwards and just looks straight up, as if "star gazing". Here is a youtube video I found searching for "snake stargazing"....there are many more if you want to look them up.

It's bad because it is neurological damage, which is clearly bad for any species, not just snakes. It's not so much a "problem" but a symptom of a much bigger problem. You can prevent it by properly quarantining your animals, having perfect husbandry (temps especially!), and buying from reputable breeders.

Ah. Very good to know. Even more reason for me to double and triple check my husbandry all the time. Thanks

Is it a constant thing or does it only happen every once in a while?

basically it is brain damage, over heating virus bacteria can cause it but all in all it is permanent damage to the brain and nervous system and is very serious.
