Pro Exotics Temp Gun - PE1 question

I ordered, over a week ago, my temp gun and it finally arrived today. I ordered, off a seller on e-bay, the Pro Exotic PE-1. I received something that looks just like it, but it does not say Pro Exotic on the package and the Model number is TG1, not PE1. Is this the same thing or did they send me the wrong thing? I don't really know anything about temp guns, but this is what i ordered:

and this is what i received

Is this a new model? I would contact the seller and ask him/her.
    Check out what's available at

The TG1 is the updated model number of the PE-1. New white packaging too. But same unit.

We are selling to a number of different hobbies and industries, so we wanted to move away from the reptile specific inference, less confusing for the home inspector or horticulturist looking for a temp gun : )

As for the measurement, what you are you temping out? When you hold the button down, it will give you continuous feedback of surface temps. Once you let go of the button, it will hold the reading for the last temp measured.

Remember that a temp gun measures reflected surface temps, not air temps. The infrared "shoots out" in a cone shape. The further away you are from your object, the larger the area you are temping. The TG1 unit has a 1:1 Distance to Spot ratio, so at one inch away you are measuring a one inch spot. At 6 inches away, a 6 inch spot.

The PE-2 unit uses a tighter 6:1 ratio.

I typically use the TG1 unit at 3 inches or less when measuring cage and setup temps.

Also remember that a temp gun won't measure through glass or plastic, but rather the surface of the glass itself. Glass, plastic, clear liquids, they are all completely opaque to an infrared temp gun.

thanks i was measuring the temp of the substrate on the warm side of the tank. i wish the seller would have specified that it was a newer model. i was a little p/o'd at first and thought maybe he sent me a knock-off. this has happened to me on ebay before, so i'm a bit on the wary and untrusting side.
