Black roughneck monitors anyone??

I want to get into monitors more and i currently have an adult savannah monitor but i want another monitor. I saw the black roughneck and fell in love. I have been researching for a while now and was just wondering if anyone on here has one. If you do what do you think about them?? I have always wanted an arboreal or semi arboreal monitor. let me know what you think.

Stay away from the tortured w.c. animals if you want to succeed in keeping monitors. There are plenty of c.b.b. species that make a much wiser choice for a neophyte keeper then a rough neck.

You have your hands full with your sav already so why not just enjoy and learn from it instead of overwhelming your self with another large w.c. species?

No this is a c.b.b. monitor from underground reptiles. trust me that was the first thing i asked. It is about 2ft and looks very healthy and i trust underground reptiles alot. Ive worked with them many times. just thought i would get some other opinions.

Also i forgot to add the savannah monitor was a c.b.b. baby too.my only c.h animals are the ball pythons i got from ghana. all my other 13 reptiles were c.b.b. Im not a supporter of wild caught monitors being caught stuffed into a box and shipped to the US for the pet trade. But i hear where your coming from.

Lol, none of the animals from underground reptiles are CBB. They've told me their mangroves are CBB despite the fact there is virtually no one working with the indicus complex here in the states.

As was stated above, if you still have questions on sav care, I would recommend keeping up with him and learning about him. Once you've had him for awhile (5+ years), and feel comfortable with your amount of knowledge then is the time to possibly look at adding another varanid.

Arboreal and semi-arboreal species seem to be way more flighty(in my limited experiance and opinion). I'd get a lot of experiance before beginning to keep those.

I always find it irksome when a vendor outright lies about the origins of the animals they sell. When I bought my first blackthroat Moggie, I was TOLD she was a CBB, but the first look from someone with experiance said "Nope, that's a wc". Looking into it more, it was true, sadly. There aren't a ton of folks working with monitor species in the US, so it should be easier to ID those that offer CBB and those that don't. But it seems a lot of sellers will simply lie and say they got them CBB from a breeder just to not admit it's all WC animals.

Ditch the concept of going arboreal and go for something along the lines of acanthurus or tristis.

^This, for the most part the arboreal animals are much more of a challenge and in most cases are WC, whereas acanthurus for instance is available CBB often.

since you are the more experienced one in ths conversation im going to take your word for it and find an acanthurus until i get more experience. thanks
