    mite war zone!

alright i have 6 snakes after my caramel died :'( well i figured out she died from drowning herself trying to drown the mites......well i came home after being gone for over a month to find that out so i went to check on all the other snakes............omg.........they all had it even in their heat pits!! well the viper boa got lucky and stayed mite free? well anyway someone told me this trick of putting a snake in an inch of water and adding a little canola oil in with it and rubbing it on the snake. They said they had luck with it so I did it to all of them including the viper boa just to make sure and they started sliding off the snakes! they were completely suffocated all snakes soaked in water then rinsed in water afterwards too and i look like a retard but i stared at their bellies and heads to see if i can find one and no they are completely gone! Yay! lol Just thought I had to share this trick that only took 30 minutes with each snake oh and yes they all had clean vaccumed out scrubbed enclosures to go into

Mites gone yes, eggs gone no. Two weeks from now, repeat cycle. Two weeks from that, repeat again. Two weeks from that repeat again, etc. etc. etc forever and ever. Even if you scrub the enclosures, you can't get them all. Worse than that, mites leave the enclosures and lay eggs all over the place.

Suggestion: Buy yourself some Provent- a- mite, treat each enclosure, and say goodbye to the mites once and for all.

    Re: mite war zone!

While that tip is great to get mites of snakes immediately, it doesnt work in the long run. It only gets rid of the adults and youll keep finding new infestations every few weeks. I also noticed that it dried out the scales on some of my snakes causing the top layer of the scale to peel off.

You really should look at getting a can of provent a mite. That is the only thing that has worked for me.
