That really depends.. I have girls that start locking in October and lay as early as March. Others that start locking in November but don't lay until May or June.
It depends on when they ovulate really.

The truth? It takes FOREVER - at least that is how it seems.

Re: Locking to laying, Total Time?
The best tip I ever got was to remember that ball pythons do not read the manual. The more you try to figure out exact dates the more stressed out youll get.

There is no exact time. It is solely based on whether or not your female ovulates. If she ovulates then you can start counting. But there is really no sense to count days while you are pairing because it means absolutely nothing. The time that matters is the time after she ovulates. And I suggest you keep very good records. It's fairly common for small time breeders to be horrible record keepers. Your records tell you everything about your animals and their breeding schedule. You will get to know your animals and when they are ready and about what months each year they'll ovulate all based upon what they've done in the past. Each female is different and the only real good way to ensure that you remember every detail is to catalog them.
The other key to successful breeding is PATIENCE!

I've had a female I began breeding in September not lay until May, and I have a female this season that I began breeding in mid-March that is due to lay any day now. It all depends on the female and as mentioned, none of them seem to read the manual. Maybe we need a ball python literacy program. Get those girls and boys learning to read so they can read the manual and be a bit more predictable.

That would take all of the fun out of it.
