For awhile I was thinking my female was building or something because she was so big. Now it's apparent she's just fat. I've had her for 2 years now and the male for over a year. She's an 06' Madu/Honey Island at about 6ft or so. I can't accurately measure her so I took a shot of her next to a 5 gal water jug which is 20 inches long.
Anyway, her spine area seems to sink a little and her sides stick out. Shes so round. In the last year she has not gained any length but she she has gained weight. She has a voracious appetite but I'm thinking I should cut back on her feeding. Her scales are definitely sticking out all along her body in vertical lines and folds where she lays curled up. I've been feeding her a large rat weekly. Should I cut her back since she's an adult?
The male is a true super dwarf. Long term captive of roughly 6 years old. He's 5ft and even though he doesn't want food as often, he still seems a bit too thick also. He gets a medium rat but he often only takes one about twice a month. His body is beginning to get quite round in comparison to when I got him and he has a few areas where his scales fold out from his body creasing as he lays as well.
Am I feeding these guys too much? Should I cut them back? If so, what would be the recommended schedule for an adult? I guess I'm just use to feeding my BPs as much as they want but I'm probably over doing it for these guys.
I tried to get a new photo of the female tonight but she would not cooperate so here are a couple from a few months ago.
This is the female. I took this photo in the winter about 5-6 months ago.
This photo was taken about 3 months ago and she is quite a bit thicker here. Even more so now.
This is the male taken last week right before I moved him back into his larger cage. He's in a 41 qt rack tub here.
