Flexwatt heat tape question?
I'm buying some flexwatt heat tape today...i have a 75 gallon aquarium so my question is how much to get...i was thinking a foot of tge 11 in. will that be enough to keep ambient temp good on other side if tank as well as keep a good basking temp?
How do I set up heat tape to thermometer and thermostat?
Also does anyone know a cheap website to get it from that also haas cheap/free shipping...tganks

I covered mine with 50-75%, placing the probe between the flexwatt and the cage in the middle of it and if you to attach it using foil tape.
Don't believe you can just use it for the ambient temps as I always have to use a che.
I get flexwatt from reptile basics when I go to an expo.

Re: Flexwatt heat tape question?
I got my heat tape from Lynn at boas and balls she was kind enough to put it in a envelope and ship it but i purchased 3 inch. It never hurts to try give her a call i'm sure she will work something out with you.

wow...i dont th ink covering 50-75% is good...they recommend covering only a third of the tank...if something happens and the heat tape fails on and heats up to its full potential then your snake is fried...with only 1/3 covered it has a little more room on the opposite end to get some cooler temps or atleast hold off till you notice.
VICSHELL i see you live in scottsburg...im not to far south in jeffersonville...are you a breeder?

With such a large tank, the heat tape won't do anything for the ambient temps. You may need a ceramic heat emitter if the temps in your house are too cold. I haven't needed one in my 20 gallon long tank because it's smaller and I have the top covered mostly, it holds in heat better. I think a foot of the 11 in would be fine as long as that covered 1/3 to 1/2 of the bottom. The thermostat probe gets taped directly onto the heat tape, I use aluminum tape but electrical tape would work too. I get my heat tape, along with pretty much everything else from reptilebasics.com. Rich is great to work with.

i just ordered it...i got the flexwatt, wiring, clamp and insulators from reptile basics and also got a ranco etc 111000 thermostat new from a buddy for $40... http://www.reptilebasics.com/ranco-etc-111000-pre-wired , i know these are made for like racks or numerous heat supplies but who knows what will happen in the new future plus i got a good price on it...im not complaining. i think he has 1 left he is trying to sale as well.
and i put aluminum foil on 75% of the screened lid and it has helped with temps and humidity but i am still having to mist 3-4 times a day but at least its geting above 50%, before i couldnt get it to stay at 50% for more than an hour...i think this flex watt will be good and if i need the extra heat ill go get a lower wattage bulb if i have to...thanks
