Has anyone ever heard of wiping your snake down with listerene to get mites off the snake?

I dont think I would do it, they make stuff designed for mites, PAM. I think listerine would be like wiping them down with gasoline

With the amount of alcohol in Listerine I wouldn't put it on my snakes. Use products designed to kill mites. And follow all directions on the products for the safety of your animals. We only put the reptile relief on the animal the other products are for the environment and must be used in conjunction with the reptile relief to get rid of the mites.

I've only heard and used listerine to get off a snake that wont let go of me. But thats just putting the smell near the bite. I would not use it on the snakes skin. If u have mites get Provent-a-mite. Until you get the provent a mite, soak the snake for half an hour or so in some warm water with a little drop of soap to break the water tension.

Yes, listerine is an antiseptic, I keep a spray bottle with diluted Listerine by my cage and spritz the snakes after outside play time. If you are wanting to kill mites on an already infected snake, it takes about a week and several soaks in the solution. Mite as well use PAM because it's faster. It's great for cage treatments, wounds and the like. Do a little google research with a search of Listerine for snakes or something. There is a lot of good info out there.
Oh and you know Listerine was a lot of things before just a mouth wash. It was invented as a cleaning agent for doctors (I think). But none the less, look up the ingredients. It's an all natural product to this day. I fact if you get bit, it makes a great way to disinfect the bite. It is you and your snakes friend. Keep a diluted spray bottle by the cage, you'll be surprised how much you use it.

Oh but ONLY get the brown stuff!!!!!

I actually have not but if you wanted a non toxic (labour intensive) mite treatment is warm water and a few drops of soap. everyday soaks for at least 20 min twice a day and each time a absolutely spotless clean of the enclosure and the surrounding area (3 meters out) during each soak. It must be spotless and every nook and cranny, you are trying to kill as many eggs and adults trying to lay them as possible. You need to keep it up for 2-3 weeks. No chemicals and no toxins just lots of work. P-A-M works but be sure to read the MSDS sheets as it is more toxic than you might be led to believe. (carcinogen in humans)
