Re: Quick question about tubs
Bigger ones can for sure pop the lid. I had this happen everyday with my pastel female. I recommend getting tubs from the container store. I will post a link for you. The prices are comparable to Walmart and I find they are made of a more durable material. The lids also seem to stay on better. I use a rack without the lids.
Also I noticed for some reason they are easier to clean. If poop gets on the tub it comes right off where it stuck for some reason to the Walmart tubs. My Walmart tubs also melted on my heat tape occasionally where these do not.

Let me know if you have any questions.

For my larger tubs I use luggage straps to keep the lids secure. To this date I have not had any escapes....

Re: Quick question about tubs
Yup, they can definitely push the lid off if it's left unsecured, even the ones with "locking lids." I use the black binder clips that you can find at walmart for mine.

Is there anyone on here that has pictures of both the interior and exterior setup of a tub? I have seen plenty of pics of how folks setup the inside of their tubs but I was wondering about the outside setup...like do you attach the heatmat to the tub, how many holes did you drill in the tub, what type of security you have to stop escapes, did you paint the outside at all to keep it somewhat dark, do you use any type of light source to give your animal a day and night variation throughout a 24 hour time frame, etc., etc.
Thanks

Here is a picture of one of my racks.

Notice I have heat tape running down the back of each shelf. All shelves are wired to a herpstat that controls the temp. With this particular rack I didnt drill holes in the tubs because there is a small gap at the top that allows airflow and I have not had an escape yet with this rack. I also have each shelf wired to a switch so I can turn the heat off on one level if im not using it.
You dont have to worry about cycling light for them. I simply use the window in the room. I open the blinds during the day and close them at night.
Heatmats can get too hot and melt the tubs. I got away from them a long time ago. Heat tape and a thermostat is a must!

Re: Quick question about tubs
I use Gorilla Tape to secure any tubs with lids, just use enough so that it runs from the bottom of the tub and 3-4 inches over the top, I fold the end of the tape over so I can grab it and peel it back to open the tub, the Gorilla Tape adhesive is good enough that it will last nearly forever even when unsticking the resticking the tape repeatedly... I usually will put atleast 2 strips on both long sides of the tubs to really hold the lid on tight.

The way I see it with ball pythons is this:
If it can happen, it will happen.
I didn't read all the comments, but I'd secure the lid somehow (binder clips, luggage straps, bungee cords, etc.)
