Black Snakes
Hey guys. EVerytime my dad sees a black snake dart across his feet in the yard he freaks . Its amusing to me and my dog licks them? But I started googling different types of jet black or close to jet black PET snakes. Just wanted a list a I dont look at colubrids ever. So I know 1. Super Cinnamon Ball Python, but thats it as far as pet snakes go. Any help is appreciated. And btw I wish eastern indigo snakes werent as guarded. I know there is alot of laws against them as pets, breeding them etc and why is that? We have some in florida and they are beautiful. Thanks

Haha I know that might not have been worded right. I was talking about what different type of jet black or close black PET snakes are out there . Its just a plain old black racer in my yard, no super cinnamons .

If you're just wondering what all-black snakes are available for purchase in captivity, there are a few.
Ones I can think of off the top of my head are:
Melanistic Eastern Garter Snakes
Black Milk Snakes
Mexican King Snakes
Black Rat Snakes
As for Eastern Indigos, they are difficult to purchase and rarely found being breed because they are classified as a "threatened" species. Only a few states require permits to keep them as pets but a federal permit is required to purchase them out of state within the United States.
EDIT: Super Cinnamons are not actually black. They are typically more of a brownish grey and seem to get lighter with age.

You are describing super pewters. Super cinnies are black with white bellies and semi greyish/white sides.

I definitely was not referring to Super Pewters, they're more of a grey/silver. Much lighter. I've seen a few pictures of hatchling Super Cinnies that appear black, but the majority I've seen posted on here appear much lighter than true black. I could be judging their color wrong, though. Maybe I am just critical of their appearance as compared to Black Milks and others like them.
