Good lord, no wonder people are so afraid of snakes...

I was flipping through the channels last night and I saw a program on Animal Planet (a program that's supposed to PROMOTE animal knowledge) called "Man-Eating Super Snake". I thought it would be about the rare occurrences and the myths of most snakes eating humans. You know what it was about?

    African Rock Pythons.

Way to go, Animal Planet. Misinforming the masses once again.

Yeah AP has nailed it's last nail in the coffin. I will not be watching there shows any longer if it's not about dogs, cats, it's a horror story about animal attacks etc etc.

I've refused to watch Animal Planet for the past few years. I don't enjoy any of the shows they air now. They have become the MTV of the animal world, steering away from their original purpose and airing only shows that they know will bring in the high ratings. Most people would rather hear horror stories than educational stories. I do enjoy Nat Geo Wild though. Their shows are well-informing, for the most part.

If it's not small and furry it's going to eventually rip you into pieces, didn't you know? I'll admit there are truth to some of the stupid stories (people buying tigers/lions/etc that they keep in their house just because they think they'll be like a housepet) but anything that has to do with reptiles it's about how they're cold-blooded killers, yada-yada-yada.

I think there's only been a handful of accounts of them actually EATING people, and it's usually decades apart and the victims are usually small children.

I noticed how he grabbed it's TAIL too, nice and far away from the head. You go, Barr, make sure that tail doesn't escape!

I would rather watch NatGeo Wild because they have a lot of shows that look wonderful (one is about python "wranglers", who are going after all the pythons in the Everglades and such to help them, not yell and scream "WOW LOOK AT THIS THING!! LOOK HOW BIG IT IS!!") but unfortunately my house has terrible wiring and some of the channels don't come in, NatGeo being one of them.

I love how the video says they can grow twice the size the size of the one they found, which was 14 feet. How often do people find 28 footers?

I taped that to finish watching, the part I saw showed a biologist that obviously said more than was aired. Since I don't know much about African Rock Pythons, tell us a little bit about them.

That being said Animal Planet hasn't been the same since Steve Irwin passed. What we need is another animal educator like him. He didn't talk about reptiles as big scary monsters. He was one of a kind. RIP Crocodile Hunter.

As long as it isn't a blood python. I did that once. Next time I'm grabbing the head end.

Seriously, I'd like to see someone do a special on how many people are killed or severely injured by large constrictors vs common farm animals. The snakes would look like saints compared to cattle, hogs, and horses.
