I recently had 2 ball python hatchlings kind of... dumped on me. I have a number of my own snakes but these two were not something I was really looking for at the time, as they were not being properly cared for and I knew this would turn into a large project.
Step one, was mite treatment. They had mites terribly. I quarantined them both and treated them for mites, after the treatment and all the mites were gone I still had trouble getting them to eat. I took them to a local vet who force fed them and told me that if they're still refusing to eat to try that one more time.
I force fed them a second time, the following week. They're both incredibly underweight still. The newest problem is that one of them seems to be taking quick, shallow breaths.
Does this seem characteristic of a respiratory infection? I hear no wheezing and there are no bubbles around the mouth. The snake is breathing closed mouthed.
Any suggestions?
