Pet for a day! (Photos of what I caught)

I was working out in my yard Saturday, trying to finish having everything prep'd for Hurricane season and saw a flash in the grass out of the corner of my eye. I stopped the mower and tried to scan the grass for what might have been moving. Then I saw it take off again, trying to hide in the taller grass up against the house. I grabbed a bucket and chased it in.

I know he's a local, but its been quite a while since we've come across any in our yard. He was pretty feisty and struck twice at my dads gloves when he picked him up. Eventually My sister grabbed an empty fish tank, and we put him in that. She watched him until we could finish the yard work. Then, she and I took him to my buddy's place on the edge of the everglades, out by some nurseries and let him loose. Last we saw him, he was climbing up a tree. Hopefully he'll have a long happy life out there helping the farmers with rodent control

Here are a few pics I got of him on my cell. I know my sister got a number of her own, I'll see if I cant get those posted up soon. His colors were so bright in person, I just wish the camera would have caught more of the intense orange/gold colors he had..not to mention the flame red!

I was hoping this one came out better, a shot of him looking at the camera

    His travel accommodations

Just wanted to share my fun this weekend. I've taken a few photos of other snakes I've seen in the yard, so I will have to try to find those and post them too.

Also curious to know who else catches snakes in their yards? Feel free to post up some photos.

Wow what a beautiful snake. i live in CA and weve had 2 rattlers in our yard over the years, one we left alone but the other my dad had someone relocate. Other then that when i was 12 i caught a garter snake that was all chewed up by something . My brother and i kept him for bout 3 weeks and let him go when he was all healed. fed him feeder goldfish but thats it none of them were that beautiful tho.

I live in Florida too and I don't come across to many corn snakes either, 99% of the time I see Black Racer's. But nice find, it's nice to know they are roaming around still.

I havent seen any black racers for about a year. I was over at a friends house and we came across 2 of them laying out in the sun, in his back yard. they were both 3-4 feet long. One took off and the other stayed around and looked at us as much as we looked at him. He even posed for some quick photos too.

When I was living up in Vero, I was walking to my door, and stepped on what I thought was a garden hose. When I looked down, it was a indigo that was bigger around then a hose and about 6-7 ft long. I think he was looking to relocate, after construction crews tore down the back half of the block that was a thicket of trees and brush. They ended up putting in a strip mall

Corns were once called Red Rat Snakes. Either is acceptable.
