so i think my BP just got bit....

well, my new pastel has been on a feeding frenzie since i got him about a month or so ago, eating stedy every 5 days, however i have had a hard time finding a descent sized white mice that is actually the same size if not a bit more than the thickest part of his body, and i have noticed after feeding he usually seems to want more. Anyway, today i went to petland and asked for the biggest feeding white mice they had, lady was helpful and took her time picking out form the clutter to find a nice thick one. When i got him i weighed him, 38 grams, biggest one i have fed him thus far (usually 28-30g) anyways i dropped the mouse in like usually, and after a few second Prince came out of his hide, and struck and coiled, only thing is this time i THINK i saw the mouse head biting down on his side as he was constricting, i did;t get a good chance to be 100 percent sure because when i though i saw this, he was constricting harder and moved in a position where i could not see the mouse head, on top of that it was hard to see cuz i have a infrared bulb on there so that always make me dizzy.

Anyway he went about his feed and went back into his hide, not i dont want to disturb him in anyways to check to see if i see a bite, i will wait until at least a day and a half before bringing him out of his tank and inspect him for anytimes of wounds.

My question is, is he was bit, what do i do? How do i treat the wound? Dealing with bitten BP is one situation i never been in, and want to know how to solve it without causing, or letting any damage happen to him.

Plain Neosporin can be applied (the kind WITHOUT the painkiller). Depending on if the bite is bad you can always change his substrate to newspaper or papertowels to avoid possible contamination. If it starts to look worse I'd do a vet trip, if not it should get better as he sheds out.

ok, ill pick up a tube of it tomorrow, even if he is not bit, just to have around. What worries me is the wait, should i check on him now and risk a posible regurg, or wait the 2 days or so before checking, how hard can a 38g white mice bite? enough to go thru his scales and cause serious damage?

I can't imagine if he got bit bad enough to cause long term damage that you wouldn't have noticed while he was eating. I'd wait at least until tomorrow night to check, you could always just lift the hide and look as much as you can without picking him up and shaking him around lol.

It happens. That's the risk of feeding live. Luckily I was able to switch my Pinstripe over to pre-killed last night, but not before a mouse or rat was able to take a bite out of him. Now, I'm not completely sure which bit him, but I assume it was the mouse I fed him because the only live rat he was given hadn't even opened its eyes yet. I wouldn't go running for the Neosporin yet, they are pretty hardy snakes and will heal fairly quickly. After being bit, my Pin went into shed only a couple days later, which I have heard happens to help speed up the healing process.

If you're worried about bites, I'd attempt to switch to pre-killed (not frozen/thawed).

Re: so i think my BP just got bit....

let him chill out for now. pick up a hook and if they have a bad strike where the rat or mouse can bite then place the hook in his mouth so he cant bite down.

I fed my hog island an asf and had do do this. when it was lights out you could see a slight blemish but no blood.

actually yes, this one was from petland, i usually get my mice from this mom and pop store, but like i said, they always usually have small small white feeder mice, and then, like somewhat larger ones quarantined cuz they are "pregnant". In petland they have a bunch of small white mice that come in every thursday, and even if they are a little big they are still considered "white feeder mice" so thats why i chose petland today, and sure enough i got a pretty descent sized one for the price of whats a "feeder mice". But yeh, it seems like the ones from the mom and pop stores just accept there death without putting up much of a fight, this one was all over the place. Even on the way home in that box that says "handle with care" he was running around and sticking his nose out of the breathing holes.

I'am not going to risk it tonight, not even picking up his hide, because even if i do that, i know he is rolles up in a ball in there and i wont be able to get a good look at his whole body, so i will just wait until tommorow night and take him out, and see him stretched out, that way i can take a good look.
