    Had an incident tonight..

So, I guess I should have knocked on wood after talking about the wonders of velcro the other day...I hook up my accurite to the top of the tank, with a few pieces of velcro. My Bp has sat on it before, and its supported his weight.

So tonight, I guess he sat on it, and it toppled...mind you the wires are hot glued to the tank, so its just a mess. Naga is caught against the adhesive on the back of one of the pieces of velcro, and one of the wires. I got him untangled, and I did my best not to rip or tear the velcro piece off of him. It came off. I didn't see any visible marks.Thank god, I'm home when this happened, and it didn't happen when I was in Denver, 2 days ago...I'm going to find a new place to put the accurite, probably ground level, to make sure it doesn't happen again. I was pretty shaken up by the incident, I can only imagine how stressed out he is...

How do I make sure he's ok? I didn't see any marks. What can I do to make sure. Thank you

If you don't see anything I would think he would be fine. Even if scales got ripped off, he would still be okay.

    I'm sure he's fine.

Tape of any sort, including sticky-backed velcro, is not a good idea to have INside the enclosure.

Ok good. I didn't see the actual incident, but I'm sure it couldn't have been anymore than a few minutes after, that I saw it, because I was in the room he's in at the time, so I'm really happy I saw it in time.

I guess I'll hot glue the entire black box to the glass.....I wish I could monitor outside humidity, so I don't have to keep the accurite inside the tank...guess I'll learn how to solder and do this :p

    Re: Had an incident tonight..

i have my accurite attached to the back glass of the terrarium via velcro but the piece of velcro is smaller then the size of the accurite so when my girl climbs on the accu-rite she's not in contact with the velcro at all and its the industrial strength adhesive so its super strong.
and for that entanglement risk that is why i ended up snipping off the corded temperature probe that was on the accurite, also cuz i use a temp gun to monitor temps so the cord really served me no purpose and posed more risks at that point.

    Re: Had an incident tonight..

thats why the piece of velcro is as small as it is. the snake cant get to it even if she tried.

So what I ended up doing was going and buying industrial strength velcro. And I just placed the accurite an inch or two above where I had it, so there is little to no room at all between the top of the accurite and the screen cage, so he can't squeeze his way on top of it, and put his weight on it.

But with this stuff, I'm sure it could support his weight, hell, I'm a full grown man, and I'm going to have trouble ripping it off, but I'm not going to risk it. Theres really no room on the ground to put the accurite. So I think this is the best solution.

    Re: Had an incident tonight..

that industrial strength velcro is definitely strong. it takes a bit of effort for me to remove the accu-rite (i tested it to see if it would hold up to my snake slithering over it like she does).
this is how/where my accurite is mounted. its on the back glass in the middle between the 2 water dishes...

a close up (its at the top right corner of this pic)...

the hide boxes have been upgraded to bigger ones since those itty bitty ones ended up being turtle shells on my snake haha.

    Here's mine

There is very little room in between the top of the accurite and where the screen slides on.

p.s. I know humidity's off. Thats cause my fans on it kills it.
