    one-eyed snake

i have found someone selling a cinny that was born with one eye, and my mate is interested in buying it, but it would be for breeding perposes.
i wanted to know am i right in telling him that you could not breed a snake that was born with a deformity as there is a high chance that the deformity can be passed on as it was born with it, or am i copletley wrong and it is safe as it is just to do with that snake??
    thanks

    Re: one-eyed snake

    Hi,

Unless he knows what caused it to be born that way then breeding it is a heck of a gamble.

If it turns out to be genetic and passes on does he think he will have an easy time selling one eyed or no-eyed hatchlings?

If it wasn't passed on then he might be ok.

But most people like to see pictures of the parents to get an idea of colour change etc and I know it would absolutely put me off buying from him.

It depends on whether the deformity was genetic or malformation while the embryo was developing in the egg. I am not an expert on the subject so I hope someone else responds to this post, however I do know that if it is a genetic condition than you most definitely do not want to breed the snake.

i told him that if he wants it for breeding then to go somewhere else as it could be a huge gamble and may end up genetic, but he said that it may not be genetic, but i am trying to persuade him not to as it is a huge gamble to take.

If you warned him and he still wants to buy it, that's his choice. You did everything you can do! He can't blame you if his gamble goes bad! Do you have any pics?
