    Lesson learned the scary way

I use a infared heat bulb for my girl, but I have an "emergency" basking bulb for the times in between bulb burn-outs. Recently I replaced the infared bulb, but didn't move the other lamp off the top (which I have 98% covered with cardboard to keep in humidity) and the on/off switch slipped behind the tank and turned on. My friend and I walked into my room and started looking all around for the source of the "horrible smell", only to find out that the lamp had been burning away the cardboard and tape, almost catching it on fire!! I immediately removed Loki to her tub (which I keep her in when cleaning her tank, etc.) and out of the room until the smell cleared, but needless to say I won't be so forgetful with lamps next time.

Luckily no one was harmed and she is now happily back in her hide and still persistent on squeezing behind her waterfall and having to make mommy pull her out every hour or so.

I would switch to UTHs for safety. Also, use a thermostat or a dimmer. Glad you and your snake are okay.

Thank you. I'm very glad as well, I hate to think of what I could have come home to if I'd been out.

That was my mission today, I definitely don't want this to happen again.
