I'm tired of getting pulled over, today was my third time this year!
The first time was for a fix-it "ticket" to fix my tail light, no biggie (you don't have to pay anything unless you don't fix it). Second time was earlier this month for my illegal window tint, another fix-it "ticket", I had it coming. Then today was for my tint again...the tint I already took off... When I told him I already took the tint off, he said, "oh, well you were speeding too" But I didn't get a ticket or a written warning so it's all good. I don't know how much I was speeding, I'm going to guess no more than 5 over-I was in town. Small town police officers give me a headache, but I suppose they have to do something.
Anyone else having issues with tint? Is it just Iowa?
I have had that tint on my front windows for almost 5 years and now I get pulled over for it twice in a month! I'm thinking they are cracking down on the tint laws though, as I'm seeing lots of cars with dark tint in the back and nothing in the front. My front tint was 35%, so it was way illegal.

Nope, not just Iowa lol.
I work for a police dept and have a kind of funny story. So one of my detectives (who was a patrolman about a year ago...has been on for at least 14 years) was sitting at the center of town doing traffic radar. Well this kid rolls up to the red light and he had severely illegal tint on all windows. This is in, oh I don't know, November? So, my officer stops him and tells him he has a verbal warning to get the tint fixed, he gave the kid a break and said "If I see you again and the tint isn't fixed, I'm going to cite you for everything I can find wrong" lol. So, about 3 weeks later, now in December in Massachusetts (probably 15 degrees and snow on the ground...) he is literally in the same spot doing traffic. He sees a familiar car drive by him....every single window rolled down....in December....lol
Needless to say, he cited him, the kid came back the next day and showed him he got the tint fixed and my officer took back the cite. It's funny how he tried to get around it....as if all your windows rolled down in the winter isn't suspicious
I work 8 hour shifts (unless I am working overtime on top of it...) and about 50% of stops for "defective equipment" is for a tint violation. It happens quite often here...not sure if it's just a coincidence lol.

I was once pulled over in a neighbourhood while driving my sister's car because of her front tint. Luckily, I have yet to be pulled over for any reason in my car (knock on wood). I'm typically pretty aware of my speed.. and of any cops within sight. I drive a 1985 535i BMW with absolutely no tinting (harsh during summer), so I haven't had this problem.

I haven't been pulled over for my tint yet but I have 5 percent all around LOL. I used to speed a lot but once I got a ticket I started driving like a grandma.

That's hilarious!!! I can't believe all the tint violations you see! It seems like the police in IA have been super lenient about tint before now. Our neighbor has 5% or less in his front windows, I swear, if he doesn't get pulled over soon I'm going to have a cow! Before this past month you could have gotten away with just about any tint. I've never seen so many cars with limo tint in the back and nothing in the front till this past month or so.

Need to do the illusion. When i had tint i did 5% on the rears and the fonts 15%. This gave the police the illusion its of legal percent.
As State of Michigan allows the rears to be as dark as you want. Fronts need be 35%+ but when doing the above it makes it look legal.

Iowa Window Tint Law
Iowa Tint Law Enacted: 1983
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN IOWA?
Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Iowa, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.
Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window Any darkness can be used.
HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE IN IOWA?
Similar to sunglass lenses, some tinting film contain metallic elements that help in reflecting incoming light and reducing the glare and heat generated by visible light.
Front Side Windows Not excessive reflectiveness, law is not specific.
Back Side Windows Not excessive reflectiveness, law is not specific.
OTHER IOWA RULES AND REGULATIONS
Restricted Colors No colors of tint are explicitly banned.
Side Mirrors No restrictions.
Certificate Requirements Manufacturers of film do NOT need to certify the film they sell in the state.
Sticker Requirements No sticker to identify legal tinting is required.
Medical Exemption State allows medical exemptions for special tint. For more details about the specific terms of the exemption, consult your state law.

What do they do when you are in someone else's car? Did he give you a warning or a fix-it ticket?

What! That's insane! If you count this time as being pulled over for speeding it would be my 5th time....I should probably work on that, eventually my womanly charm isn't going to save me a ticket. I even had my radar detector on my front window. It wasn't on, but I forgot to pull it down before he stopped me, and I wasn't about to do it when he could see.

Re: I'm tired of getting pulled over, today was my third time this year!
In this area, aftermarket tinted windows will get you pulled over and get you a ticket. There are two reasons for this.
1. With the down turned economy, the pressure is on for cops to write tickets to bring in revenue.
2. Police Officers generally dislike tinted windows because it prevents them from seeing the occupants in the vehicle. Someone inside the car could be aiming a gun at him without him knowing it.
